The St. Croix River

Recognized for both its historical significance and its unspoiled beauty, it is a heaven for canoeing, fishing, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor recreation activities.

The river has been used for centuries by for transportation, fishing, recreation, and industry as the waters have carried people and goods them through forests, lakes, and rapids out into the Passamaquoddy Bay. It has also played an important role in the settlement of Canada and the northern United States as St. Croix Island, acted as the first settlement of Europeans north of Florida when Samuel de Champlain wintered on the small island in 1604.
